Appointments are usually available within 24 hours, and an initial consultation lasts at least 30 minutes. Dermatology referral appointments are usually available within 1-2 weeks.

A referral letter and any radiographs or ECG's should be sent with the patient, or letters can be faxed in advance.

Referral forms with directions to the referral centre and preparation instructions are available on request to give to clients. In general it is best to advise owners not to feed pets that morning, but do not withhold water.

Abdominal ultrasound examinations may show abnormalities that need biopsy for further diagnosis.  Before biopsy we need to know that the patient's blood clotting function is not compromised, particularly if liver disease is suspected.  Please ensure that, where possible, a clotting profile has been submitted to your lab and the results faxed to us on 01553 761115 or sent with the owner at referral.  This will avoid delay or repeat visit for biopsy.  In case of doubt speak to David Clarke

Patients referred for skin problems should ideally have current therapy withdrawn as follows:

dot.gif (834 bytes) Antihistamines - stop for 2 weeks

A full written report and recommendations are posted or faxed to the referring veterinary surgeon within 24 hours, and findings may be discussed over the telephone. Radiological and ECG reports are faxed or posted the same day. ECG tracings may be faxed but are much better sent by post for an accurate report.  Alternatively, they can be scanned as JPG files and emailed.
