Consultations are by appointment, to reduce
waiting times and stress to our patients. Sick patients are
always seen the same day, and we have no waiting lists for any procedures. Surgery times
are 8.30 am - 6.30 pm weekdays, and 8.30 am to 12.30 pm Saturdays. Our consultations are
longer than many veterinary surgeries, averaging five per hour. This extra time is to
allow for a full and thorough examination of your pet. Vaccinations include a full health
check by the vet. Health check lists are sent with booster reminders - use them to remind
you of things you wish to discuss on the day. Older patients are offered free urine tests
at booster time too.
Operations are performed under sterile
conditions in theatre, with full monitoring during the op and recovery period. Modern
anaesthetics are very safe, but we offer blood tests before surgery to detect any problems
which may increase the anaesthetic risk.
Admissions - our five wards are centrally
heated day and night. All pets are given soft Vetbeds to lie on and receive personal
nursing care. You are very welcome to visit your pet and discuss progress as often as you
wish, and we will make every effort to make your pet's stay as comfortable as possible. We
understand how worrying it is to leave your pet, so do ask any questions as they arise and
let us know of your pet's likes and dislikes.

Fees and payment - current prices are on the
wall and in a folder in reception - please discuss fees with us if payment is likely to be
a problem. Estimates are offered for any procedure, but bear in mind that we often do not
know what treatment will be required when we admit a sick patient - we are happy to keep
you informed of costs as we go along, however. Help with fees is available through the PDSA PETAID scheme to those in the postcode area PE30 who are in
receipt of certain benefits. You have to register with the PDSA before treatment is needed
to use this scheme - ask for a form at reception. INSURANCE is the best way to avoid worry
and ensure that you can request the best treatment for your pet - we cannot recommend it
too highly. A pack of proposal forms and information is available from reception - always
insure your pet BEFORE illness occurs.
We are happy to accept payment by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. All fees should be
paid at the time of treatment please - we do not send bills or offer other credit
facilities.
Home Visits - we are happy to visit pets at
home, but we cannot bring all our surgery equipment with us, and some patients are more
difficult to handle at home as they are protecting you. If transport is a problem, we have
a list of taxi companies willing to transport pets. If you do need a visit, please book it
before 9.30 am.
In an emergency, always telephone first - we can get vital
equipment ready for you, and advise you what to do. It is almost always best to transport
casualties to the surgery as this is quickest, and our life support equipment will be
ready to hand.
